'We are so very grateful,' family says
When a longtime resident of Oakfield in Fond du Lac County needed a ramp so he could access his home, a local teacher jumped quickly to his aid.
Oakfield High School industrial arts teacher Paul Helm rallied his students, who reported to the Fond du Lac County home of Fred Williams, hammers in hand. Williams' medical condition makes climbing stairs almost impossible, explained his daughter, Lynne Williams-Kryger, who graduated from Oakfield High in 1979.
“A once very active and energetic man losing the ability to do even the simplest thing is very frustrating for not only him, but his family as a whole,” she wrote in a letter thanking Helm and his students. “I did not have the know-how to build a ramp myself so I approached Oakfield High School and asked if any students would like to help out a 48-year resident of Oakfield.
“We as a family are all so very grateful for getting back some of my dad's life,” she continued. “Thanks to the wonderful youth of Oakfield High School and Mr. Paul Helm.”
