| Southern Lakes United Educators-Retired recently awarded $567 in grants to five teachers whose proposals would benefit a number of teachers and their students over an extended period of time. | |
Jill Nottestad at Lakeland School in Elkhorn will purchase gardening tools and promotional materials for beautifying the school's spring garden and outdoor grounds. |
Greg Zeman at Burlington High School will purchase textbooks titled "Boundary Waters Canoe Camping" by Cliff Jacobson for his summer school class titled “Pushing the Boundaries.” |
Kirsten Eck at Cooper Elementary School in Burlington will purchase a set of nine boxes of materials titled “Reading for Comprehension Series.” |
Irene Straz and Mary Wisner, also at Lakeland School, will purchase the three-volume set "Sign Language Library" which is a Boardmaker CD Program. |
|
There were 23 applications for grants. SLUE-R members wanted to help everyone with their excellent projects but were limited by the available funds. The membership of SLUE-Retired includes educators and support staff members who remain involved in education. Proceeds from the sale of donated lunches at meetings, contributions from active and inactive members, and the annual silent auction provided funds for the grants. - Submitted by JoAnne Williams Posted August 7, 2007 |
