Jim Schultz (seated, center), a school counselor from Watertown, testifies before the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee on behalf of Governor Doyle's proposed 2005-07 state budget. The hearing, which is the first of five to be held on the state budget this month, was Wednesday (March 9, 2005) at the Health and Wellness Center of Watertown.
The governor's budget calls for the state to live up to its commitment to fund two-thirds of the cost of public education and provides additional funding for the SAGE class-size reduction program, early childhood and special education, new teacher mentoring and more.
Also pictured are Lakewood UniServ Council members Sue Petra (seated, left) and Mel Wollenburg (seated, right). The group of people standing behind Schultz are educators in the Watertown School District who came to the hearing to show support for their colleagues and Governor Doyle's budget proposal.
Another group of WEAC members from Fond du Lac also attended the hearing and testified on behalf of Governor Doyle's budget proposal.
WEAC President Stan Johnson encouraged members to voice
their support for the governor's budget at the other hearings. The dates,
times and locations for those hearings are available on OnWEAC.
