aid amount

SAGE aid is appropriated under s.20.255(2)(cu) and s.20.255(2)(cv).

1. Appropriation - For the 1998-99 school year a total of $15,030,000 will be available for the SAGE program. Of this amount $250,000 will be used to fund the required program evaluation. Any money not committed for aid payments will lapse to the state's general fund. Such a lapse will occur if the total number of low-income pupils in grades K-1 in the schools beginning the program in 1998-99 and in grades K-3 in original SAGE schools is less than 7,390.

2. Aid in Future Biennia - Additional aid will be requested in the next state fiscal biennium to ensure that the aid per low-income student provides an amount sufficient to enable each district to expand required services to the additional grades covered by the program in each year. It is anticipated that an additional $2,000,000 to $3,000,000 will be needed in each year of the 1999-2001 biennium to allow the schools beginning the program in 1998-99 to expand the program to grades 2 and 3 as required by law.
