2003 Kohl Foundation Scholars, Fellows Announced
Winners of the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship
Programs were named February 28, 2003.
One hundred teachers and 200 high school seniors will receive awards
of $1,000.
Excellence Scholarship recipients have demonstrated
excellence in the academic arena and beyond. Each graduating high school
student shows strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond.
Initiative Scholarship recipients, chosen by
their schools, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom
and have strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond. The scholars
are ineligible for other academic-based scholarships.
Fellowship recipients are educators who are
chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their
students, their ability to motivate others, and for their leadership and
service both inside and outside of the classroom.
The Scholarship and Fellowship programs are sponsored by the Wisconsin
Newspaper Association, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin
Council of Religious and Independent Schools, Cooperative Educational
Service Agencies, and the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.
The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established
by U.S. Senator Herb Kohl in 1990. To date the foundation has awarded
$4.4 million to Wisconsin educators, students and schools.
