State Math And Science Teachers Receive National Recognition
Eight Wisconsin educators have been nominated for Presidential
Awards for Excellence. The awards honor excellence in mathematics and
science instruction.
The
mathematics finalists are:
- Susan Popelka, River Falls High School;
- Beth Schefelker, Thoreau Elementary School, Milwaukee;
- Kathleen Snyder, Southern Bluffs Elementary School, La Crosse.
The science finalists are:
- Dana Krejcarek, Kohler School District;
- James Schmitt, North High School, Eau Claire;
- Susan Sewell, Columbus Middle School;
- Ellen Van Pay, Martin Luther King Elementary School, Green Bay;
- Susan Whitsett of Oshkosh, Fond du Lac High School.
Each finalist will receive $750 and will be recognized at an awards ceremony
this fall. Four of the nominees will be selected to receive the Presidential
Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Those winners
will receive a $7,500 cash award to improve science and mathematics instruction.
Each winner will also meet the winners from other states during a conference
and ceremony at the White House.
