Parent Leadership Conference is September 29

Posted: 7/30/2010 2:48:29 PM

The Department of Public Instruction's 2010 Annual Parent Leadership Conference is a great way to jump-start long-lasting, meaningful partnerships with families this school year and begin planning to meet parent involvement requirements in Title I and other programs.

The conference, to be held September 29 at the Monona Terrace and Convention Center, Madison, annually attracts over 400 teachers, parents, administrators, school staff, and community members. Participants will learn how to begin or upscale partnerships, connect them to school goals for students, and build a school culture that nurtures family-community partnerships.

Keynote speaker Byron Garrett, National PTA Chief Executive Officer, will provide a national perspective on parent involvement issues. Featured guest, National PTA President Charles Saylors, will conduct a workshop on the need for involving fathers.

Teams from any school or district seeking to improve through partnerships with families are encouraged to attend. The final session of the day will help teams and individuals start a One-Year Action Plan for Partnerships to continue the conversation upon returning home.

Because of funding from federal Title I, Title IV, and Special Education, the registration fee is kept to only $20. The annual conference is co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction with Parents Plus and Wisconsin PTA.

Registration fee includes morning refreshments, lunch, and conference materials. To register or download a conference flyer, go to http://www.dpi.wi.gov/fscp/index.html.
