Posted: 10/22/2009 10:48:16 AM
Brown County UW-Extension will host a Food and Schools Forum on Nov. 4 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. The forum will offer information about current efforts to provide healthy food choices in Northeast Wisconsin schools.
While schools may be interested in providing students with healthy food choices, they may have questions about implementing programs. The Food and Schools Forum will highlight several successful programs in the state along with current research projects. The hope is to create a dialogue about healthy food choices while allowing individuals to determine what will work best for their school district.
Speakers and topics will include:
- UW-Extension Community Gardens Coordinator Bill Wright: The GROW project and research at Appleton Area School District;
- Sheboygan Falls teacher Bruce Bruner and Sheboygan Falls Director of Instruction Jean Born: Sheboygan Fall’s Sustainable Living Curriculum; and
- Panel discussion of education resources, including: Farm to School in Northeast Wisconsin, Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom, Got Dirt? Gardening Initiative, and Nutrition Education.
Teachers, school administrators, food service staff, school board members, and those interested in healthy food choices in schools are invite to attend.
The forum will be held at Brown County UW-Extension, 1150 Bellevue Street, Green Bay, Wis.
While this event is free, pre-registration is required since a light meal will be provided. Individuals interested in attending should contact Kristen Buettner at 920-391-4655 or Buettner_KM@co.brown.wi.us
