WEAC reacts to efforts to reform student assessment system
8/27/2009 3:57:18 PM
The Wisconsin Education Association Council is supportive of the move to transform the state’s testing program to a system that provides multiple measures of student learning at various points during the school year. We believe this will result in data that educators can use to provide individual, more immediate instruction to children.
A more complete system of classroom, district and state testing, instead of one high-stakes test, will benefit students while also offering accountability to the public.
Wisconsin educators were part of the task force around the way we assess student learning, and they brought to the table what they know works in their classrooms and schools. A move to a balanced assessment system that goes beyond the WKCE is a move in the right direction.
