Putting some PEP into physical education

A federal agency gives out more than $75 million in grants a year for physical education programs across the country. This year, Wisconsin was awarded more than $3.6 million of that money, far more than any other state. In fact, Wisconsin traditionally has been at the top in terms of successful annual applications to the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP), part of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Read more

West Bend stands behind its schools

About 1,000 parents, grandparents, students, educators and alumni of West Bend Public Schools told the board of education that they support continued investments in public education. Students rallied before the meeting and then joined forces with the others who crowded a high school gymnasium to show they are concerned about further, deeper cuts that will be enacted if the board opts not to adequately fund the schools. Share Your Story on health care reform

With health care reform moving closer in Congress, now is a great time to get your story out there. Janesville world language teacher Edna Feldman-Schultz shares this thought in our forum: "If you cannot be in school, you cannot learn. If you cannot learn, you cannot succeed or advance in life. Convention is coming

There are just a couple of weeks between now and the 2009 WEAC Convention, Wisconsin's premier professional development opportunity for educators. The Convention features sessions on topics such as classroom management, SMART Boards and personal finance as well as courses such as helping education support professionals earn their ESP Level I Certification. Getting wealthy is a little harder now
Over the summer WEAC Member Benefits Specialist Bob Moeller met with hundreds of members individually, and he said he's "seen a lot of money fund-type investments that were earning about 0.1% per year. Can you do better? Yes, if you spend a little time on your investments and/or incur a little more risk." Bob says many of his principles of becoming wealthy do not change.
