Minority Outreach hosts discussion


CSI New York star and New York Times best selling author, Hill Harper leans over to shake hands with Tjuna Eggson. Harper gave away free autographed copies of his newest book.

A panel discussion on “The Dropout Crisis: Perspectives from Ethnic Minority Leaders” hosted by The Executive Office of Governance and Policy, Minority Community Outreach was held during the NEA Representative Assembly in the Washington Convention Center.

Delegates listened to discussions by the panel participants: Moderator John Quinones, co-anchor of ABC Primetime; special guest Hill Harper, CSI-NY actor/activist; Norma Cantu, civil rights attorney and professor of law; Dr. David Beaulieau, professor of Indian Education; Doua Thor, executive director for ASIAN Action Center; and Maria Echaveste, deputy chief of staff to former President Bill Clinton.

NEA President Reg Weaver was on hand to introduce each guest and open the discussion. The hour-long workshop was capped off with actor/activist Hill Harper presenting each delegate with signed copies of his best selling books: “Letters to a Young Brother” and “Letters to a Young Sister.”
