Sun Prairie voters Tuesday (November 6, 2007) approved spending $96 million to build a new high school and convert the existing high school, in what is the largest approved school referendum in state history.

Sun Prairie will build a new high school for grades 10, 11 and 12 and convert the existing high school for use by grades 8 and 9. Sun Prairie voters rejected a second proposal to build a pool at the new high school and a third proposal to fund the operation and maintenance of the proposed pool.

The largest previously approved school referendum was $92.85 million in New Richmond last April. A $119.3 million referendum was defeated Tuesday by voters in the West Bend School District.

Also on Tuesday, voters in Hartford rejected a $25.5 million referendum and Denmark voters defeated a $9.2 million referendum.

But voters approved referendums of $17.6 million in Holmen, $14.95 million in Galesville-Ettrick, $12 million in Abbotsford, $5.1 million in Genoa City J2, and $4.48 million in Prescott.
