Madison Students Earn 2001 AP Scholar Award

Franda Li and David Mericle, students at Memorial High School in Madison, are Wisconsin's 2001 Advanced Placement Scholars.

The College Board presents the awards to the male and female student in each state who earn the highest average score on Advanced Placement exams.

The AP program offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school and to receive college credit for their efforts.

Li and Mericle are among 105 students nationwide to receive the awards. Li had her AP scores sent to Stanford University and Mericle's scores were sent to Harvard University.

In Wisconsin, over 15,000 students took AP exams in 2001. Two-thirds of the students earned passing scores.
