Four Named Wisconsin Teachers of the Year

Four educators have been chosen in the Wisconsin Teacher of the Year program as representative of the state's exemplary public school instructional staff.

"Individuals selected for this honor are dynamic, gifted, and creative educators who invest 100 percent of their energy, and then some, in teaching children and preparing them for the future," said State Superintendent John T. Benson in announcing the four Teachers of the Year.

The elementary, middle/junior high, high school, and special services Teachers of the Year are:

  • Sally J. Kelly, a third-grade teacher at Fremont Elementary School in the Weyauwega-Fremont School District.
  • Ted J. Eischeid, an eighth- and ninth-grade science teacher at Theisen Junior High School in the Fond du Lac School District.
  • Thomas J. Klubertanz of Milwaukee, a high school speech and theater teacher at West High School in the Wauwatosa School District.
  • Joni M. Peterson of Soldiers Grove, a kindergarten through 12th-grade art teacher for the North Crawford School District.
