Trust’s TSA Program is Enhanced

By Scott Culver

December 2000

The WEA Trust’s tax-sheltered annuity (TSA) program has added eight mutual funds and relaxed limitations on how investors can allocate their money.

These changes mean participants in the TSA program can now choose from among 14 investment choices, including a guaranteed investment, to create a portfolio to match their tolerance for risk.
A participant’s portfolio can run the investment spectrum from 100% mutual funds to 100% in the Guaranteed Investment. Previously, the Trust required participants to invest a minimum of 20% in the Guaranteed Investment, leaving a maximum of 80% for mutual funds.

The Trust’s Guaranteed Investment traditionally offers among the highest yield available to Wisconsin public school employees. Interest is compounded daily to yield 7.5% during 2001, less the service expenses of the Trust.

These enhancements were made November 1 in response to TSA participants’ requests for more mutual funds and fewer restrictions.

Choosing funds
In selecting the additional mutual funds, the Trust looked for funds with a strong track record, stable management, and low fees and operating expenses.

In addition, the Trust considered how the funds complemented its current investment offerings. Since many participants asked for more investment choices, one of the Trust’s objectives was to add funds in distinct investment categories. Our mutual fund offerings allow participants to mix different types of funds to create a well-rounded portfolio.

The Trust also responded to members who asked for more socially responsible funds. Two choices added in this area are from Citizens Funds and complement the existing Domini Social Equity Fund. Participants can now create a diversified, socially responsible portfolio.

Before investing
As with all investment decisions, carefully consider your choices in relation to your long-term goals and tolerance for risk. Before investing in a mutual fund, call and request a prospectus.
