WASB Delegates Endorse Teacher Competency Testing
The Wisconsin Association of School Boards has gone on record opposing
proposed changes in the way teachers are prepared and licensed.
According to a WASB news release, the new system should link directly
with pupil performance standards and goals, and change the systems
incentives to dramatically improve the quality and performance of professional
educators.
The group also called for the recognition of emerging professional
options such as independent professional practice, charter school operator
or Internet educator.
WEAC President Terry Craney said the comments amount to an attempt
to dilute the meaning of a teacher license in order to open up the profession
to lower-paid people who do not have adequate training or experience.
