State to Get $20.1 Million for New Teachers
Wisconsin school districts will receive $20.1 million in federal funds
next year to hire an additional 500 new teachers in the early grades under
the Clinton administrations new Class Size Reduction Initiative.
The money comes from $1.2 billion to be distributed nationally as a down
payment on the presidents plan to hire 100,000 teachers over seven
years to reduce average class size in grades 1 through 3 to 18 pupils
per teacher.
Milwaukee Public Schools are slated to receive $6.9 million.
