Stand Up for Public Schools' Event is December 8

Jesse Jackson Jr. is the featured speaker at a December 8 rally that will conclude an event designed to build support for public schools.

People for the American Way, the NAACP, clergy and community groups sponsoring the day-long event invite educators and members of the public to attend the Partners for Public Education’s conference at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Milwaukee.

“This event will demonstrate that every child counts and there is a need to stand up for public schools,” said Kirk Clay, spokesman for the event.

The day features workshops on issues faced by public education, including “Milwaukee and Cleveland Voucher Programs: Do They Work?,” “Public Funds: Holding Voucher Schools Accountable,” “Proponents of Vouchers: Facts About the Right Wing,” and “Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE): Class Size and Student Achievement.”

The workshops are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the rally is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. WEAC will be among many schools and organizations featuring displays throughout the day. Registration is required. For more information, contact Kirk Clay at 414-871-1000.
