DPI Must Now Approve Voucher School Selection Plans
Schools participating in Milwaukees private school voucher program
must now have random selection plans approved by the Department of Public
Instruction, following a complaint from the People for the American Way
and the Milwaukee branch of the NAACP.
A review by the two groups found about one-third of voucher schools were
not complying with random selection requirements. As a result, the DPI
is now requiring schools to get approval of their plans before they accept
new applications for the fall; and the description of schools selection
processes must be filed by May 1.
