Mike Meyers to Pitch Read Across America
The Cat in the Hat is back by popular demand in Wisconsin and hundreds
of thousands of kids and their schools are gearing up for a big 95th birthday
bash for Dr. Seuss on March 2.
Mike Myers, relief pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, is the official
reading chair for the statewide event. Myers will tape public service
announcements that WEAC will distribute to radio stations throughout the
state.
WEAC has also arranged for live television feeds of Myers from spring
training at Maryvale, Arizona, on March 2 the official birthday
of the late Ted Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, who is the creator of the Cat
in the Hat.
Members enthusiasm has grown since last year, as is clearly shown
by the more than 450,000 orders each for Read Across America bookmarks
and stickers.
For more information about the celebration, contact WEAC Communications
Division Intern Melissa Stamps at 1-800-362-8034, extension 386. Information
also is available on the NEAs special Web site at: www.nea.org/readacross.
