Edison Project Charter Schools Advance
Contracts for two charter schools in Milwaukee that would be managed
by the for-profit Edison Project have been endorsed by a University of
Wisconsin Board of Regents committee.
The Education Committee voted to approve proposed contracts for the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to oversee two charter schools. The schools would
be chartered by non-profit groups which plan to hire the Edison Project
to manage day-to-day operations of the schools.
UWM officials asked regents to give them broad control over the agreements
with school management firms, including the right to reject contracts.
