Contract Settled for Madison School District Clerical and Technical Employees
Negotiators for the Madison Metropolitan School District
and Madison Teachers Incorporated have reached tentative agreement today
on the 1998-2000 Collective Bargaining Agreement covering the 300 clerical
and technical employees of the school district. The Supportive Educational
Employees (SEE-MTI) contract settlement includes a 3.25% salary increase
in each year of the two-year contract, as well as an amended longevity
schedule. The tentative settlement still needs to be ratified by the Board
of Education and Union membership.
Members of the Union negotiating team described the contract negotiations
as "the best in twenty years" in terms of both outcome and process.
While the Union made improvements in salary and longevity pay, the District
gained new cost-containment language regarding workers compensation benefits.
The SEE-MTI bargaining unit is a diverse Union made up of individuals
in over sixty different job titles including school district secretarial
and clerical staff, computer programers and technicians, family community
liaisons, bi-lingual resource specialists and numerous other administrative
support personnel.
