Six Stoughton Girls Honored for Pregnancy Prevention Ads

Before you go beyond a kiss, think about what youll miss.
That is the key message in one of the award-winning pregnancy prevention
television advertisements developed by six Stoughton middle school students.
Another ad carries this pointed message for parents: Talk to your
kids before it is too late.
The girls portfolio of 10 advertisements won seven awards in the
National Student Public Service Competition to help prevent teen pregnancy.
Three of the awards were for first place.
Two of the 14-year-olds and River Bluff Middle School language arts teacher
Mark Mueller traveled to Washington D.C. to accept the awards at an April
30 ceremony. In the picture above, Amanda Kennedy (left) and Theresa Schuller

students who were honored but did not make the trip were Kenoshia Brown,
Teresa Buttchen, Elizabeth Carter, and Stephanie Shult.
The project grew out of a segment in Muellers class on how advertising
persuades consumers. Mueller received contest materials in the mail about
the same time and asked the girls if they were interested.
I cant tell you how proud I am of them, Mueller said.
