L-R: WEAC Secretary/Treasurer Dave Harswick; WEAC Kickoff Kid Erik Herzog; WEAC member and teacher Wade Wentland.
It was a rainy Saturday, but Minocqua student Erik Herzog made the most of his time on the field of Camp Randall Stadium for the final UW Badgers home game. Thanks to a nomination by Wade Wentland, a WEAC member and teacher in the Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk School District, Erik happily participated in the memorable event.
Erik was this year's final WEAC Kickoff Kid in the partnership between the University of Wisconsin Athletics and WEAC. In addition to grabbing the kickoff tee, he saw player warm-ups and introductions, and waved to the crowd on the scoreboard during the first quarter.
Mr. Wentland nominated Erik for his work both in and out of the classroom, including participating in student council, DARE, assisting teachers with younger students, and fundraising for pancreatic cancer awareness and research. Erik is also an avid athlete while maintaining a high grade point average. “He’s a one-in-a-million kid,” said Mr. Wentland.
Erik was joined on the field by two friends and Mr. Wentland.
