Senate Passes Anti-Bullying Legislation

Update: On November 8, 2007, the State Senate passed an amended version of Senate Bill 42 on a voice vote and sent it to the Assembly. (On October 18, 2007, the Senate Education Committee voted, 5-2, to recommend passage of the bill.) Click here for more current information.

In addition to registering in support of Senate Bill 42 at an August 23, 2007, Senate Education Committee hearing, WEAC also:

  • Registered in favor of Assembly Bill 26, which increases the penalty for disobeying school crossing guards. Under current law, a driver who disobeys an adult school crossing guard is liable for a forfeiture $20 to $40 for the first offense and $50 to $100 for the second and subsequent offenses. This bill increases the penalty to a range of $30 to $300.
  • Registered in favor of Senate Bill 249, which allows school boards to use federal, state, local or private funds to pay the costs of advanced placement examinations taken by pupils who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches under the federal School Lunch Program.
