Technical college out-of-state tuition drops

7/27/2009 8:29:20 PM

Technical colleges become more affordable for out-of-state students under the 2009-11 state budget, which went into effect on July 1.

The technical colleges will now charge out-of-state residents 150% of the in-state rate.  The tuition rate change, meant to attract students from Illinois and Iowa means that out-of-state students will pay $152.10 per credit for postsecondary courses.  In-state students will pay $101.40 per credit.

Under previous law, technical colleges were required to charge out-of-state students the full cost of their education - $606.85 in 2009-10.

Students taking liberal arts credits at Nicolet, Milwaukee, Madison and Chippewa Valley pay slightly more due to cost recovery requirements - $136.10 per credit for in-state students and $204.15 for out-of-state students.
