Win tickets for your class to attend Weather Day at Miller Park April 28

Posted: 3/9/2010 2:50:00 PM

Terri Schlack and Roberts Elementary School fourth graders
in Fond du Lac win a trip to Weather Day at Miller Park

It was pure chance, but the very last comment submitted in the weac.org Weather Day at Miller Park Contest was randomly selected as the winning entry. Fond du Lac Teacher Terri Schlack posted her comment entering the contest just about 15 minutes before the contest deadline.

Each entry was assigned a number, and we used random.org to select a winning number between 1 and 73 (including Facebook entries). It had nothing to do with when someone entered, but Terri's number came up the winner.

Roberts Elementary School fourth graders will be treated to a day of learning and fun at Miller park on April 28.

The Milwaukee Brewers are donating the tickets. WEAC will help cover transportation costs to bus Roberts students to the game and back. Weather Day activities commence at 9:30 a.m., and the Brewers will play the Pittsburgh Pirates beginning at 12:10 p.m.

During Weather Day at Miller Park, students will enjoy a special meteorology lesson from Storm Team 4 meteorologists and a visit from Bernie Brewer and the Klement's Famous Racing Sausages, along with a special Science Fair featuring the Discovery World and the Learning Shop before watching the game.

There will be many opportunities for Roberts fourth grade teachers to tie this all-star field trip into their curriculum in the days leading up to April 28.

This is the 2nd Annual Weather Day at Miller Park. Last year, teacher Anne Baldwin of Highland won tickets, and brought her 7th and 8th graders on the field trip they will not soon forget.

My second grade class would be so excited to hear we are going to a Brewers game!  We have a lot of fans among the girls and boys in my class.  We have a really neat class of kids with a variety of learning needs.  AND we have been learning about WEATHER!  I hope we win!! :)

Thank you for this creative and unique opportunity.  All of us who wrote in should go, but I realize this is impossible.  The fourth grade classes at Roberts Elementary in beautiful Fond du Lac, WI, would absolutely love to be the class selected this year.  The architectural structure of the building in term of seeing geometric shapes and what makes a structure stronger than another is definitely worth the trip.  The colors, sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and feel both emotional and using touch would be a worthwhile descriptive writing experience.  Teamwork is the direction of the business world and students should discover that it takes all abilities to make a quality "product".  Everyone should have input into the end result.  Sportsmanship displayed by the crowd and by the teams playing are an experience every child should be a part of especially the number of people who attend vs. the crowds, at say, high school games.  There are students who would otherwise never have the chance to see such an event.  I myself went to my first Brewers game a couple years ago with my son and was astounded by how I was swept up into the frenzy.  We could go on and on about the math lessons covertly embedded into the game - economics, operations, and, as mentioned geometry.  Science is also an important role because of the weather and how it effects batting and throwing, and the pitching. The comprehension in reading the billboards, score boards, food concessions and handouts and seeing how important this skill is if one is going to be knowledgeable is tantamount. Learning rules are important in playing games and applying that to living in our society is an important social skill.   The fact that we will see the Brewers - this is Wisconsin social studies at its best!  We can't forget the music so unique to the baseball world is an interesting.  Thank you for this opportunity from all the students in Wisconsin.

    Hello Brewers!

A day at Miller Park would mean a lot to my 6th graders.  With the recent paper mill closing and 510 jobs leaving the area, the family finances have taken a hit.  Without substantial fundraising, very few of our kids would be able to afford and take in a game at Miller Park.
We are currently finishing a unit on Motion, Forces, and Simple Machines in science.   Our next unit of study is "The Atmosphere in Motion" and how it affects us here in central Wisconsin.  A trip to a Brewers game and attending Weather Day at Miller Park would be the ultimate ending "project" for us to experience.  It would put lasting memories in our kids hearts and minds!

    Thanks for giving us consideration,

My second grade students are currently studying a weather unit in my classroom as well as a baseball unit in music. We are integrating the music theme into the classroom which has led to baseball cards galore in our classroom. We would love to see a live game, Miller Park,  as well as Ryan Braun, Prince  Fielder, Ricky Weeks, Josh Butler, and the others during the Weather Day event.  Many of the children will never be able to experience a baseball game or Miller Park. We all wore Brewer clothing or blue if we did not own Brewer clothing on Opening day. As we discuss community workers we would relate the Johnsonville Brat and sausage races into the curriculum as well.  What a wonderful opportunity you are providing for a classroom. Thank you

    Hello,
I'm a speech pathologist working at Roberts Elementary School.  I am entering the contest for Julie Baltz's CDS class. The children are ages 5 to 11, and they all love learning and experiencing what our great community and state is all about.

We have quite a few die-hard Brewer fans at Roberts School, and we all wore our Brewer shirts on opening day this week.  The kids love to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during music and our Friday Finales.  Seeing a real live Brewers game would certainly show them who we are rooting for when we sing that song.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

    THIS WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!!! :)
My students would be ECSTATIC to be able to attend Weather Day!  Not only do we study weather, but like the Brewers, my team teacher and I work with our kindergarten and first grade students to create a community that works together and cares about one another.  We discuss why teamwork is so important and we practice being bucket fillers.  When you fill someone's bucket you do something to make them happy.  When you dip into someone's bucket you do something that makes them sad.  We work towards filling people's buckets to earn incentives.  What an awesome incentive this would be to work towards!  This would also be great because even though these students live in Milwaukee County they don't often have the opportunity to attend events like this.
THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY!

As a first year teacher I have been welcomed to a school that is more tightly knit than a new catchers mitt. We recognize our teammates' strengths and weaknesses and give support when needed. As you can see, many of my peers have been writing in for Mrs. Sperle. It is true what they say; no one is more deserving. Just like the heart of an order she is a dependable, smart, and strong teacher who continuously hits homeruns in the classroom.
Send her 5th grade class to Miller Park!!!!!! Go Team Sperle!!!!

    Baseball

This event would be a “hit” with my fourth grade class.  This event not only ties in with our weather unit, but I do a whole baseball unit this time of the year.  We start out with reading the book Skinnybones which is a very comical book about a baseball player vs. the class clown who enters a contest and wins.   After we read this book we do baseball activities such as baseball math and the students write a story using baseball words.  To make the last quarter go a bit faster my class earns letters that spell out BASEBALL and they earn pretend money for doing various things for half the quarter.  We end around Earth Day where the kids who earn BASEBALL are able to play against a fifth grade class, their own class, or another fourth grade class.  They also get to buy the typical baseball food with the money they earned, hot dogs, popcorn, licorice, and dirt dessert (Earth Day) to name a few.  It is a fun learning incentive to end the year.  However, going to a real game where most of my students do not venture out very far would “score” big if they had a chance to go to Milwaukee to see a Brewer’s game. It would definitely be a “grand slam” with LC.

What do you get when you cross 13 Brewer bobbleheads, a homemade bucket head, four pennants and a lot of Brewer posters?  You get Mrs. Sperle's 5th Grade Classroom!  We are located on "Brewer Drive" marked by a sign above the door.  You will find this classroom nestled in Southwest Wisconsin.  Outside the door you will find a another sign that keeps track of the Brewers' record vs. the Cubs' record . What you don't know, is that many of my students have never been to a Brewer Game at Miller Park.  Many may never get the opportunity.  What a great way to celebrate their last year in our school (and with me) by a trip to Milwaukee to see our Brew Crew in action!!  Please send us!!

I would like to show support for my "teammate"  Mrs. Melissa Sperle.  She is the biggest Brewer fan I know. She even wore a Brewer jersey to school today for professional dress! :)  In fact, her classroom motto is all about Team!  I know that she uses the Brewers as motivation in her classroom and ties the team to her curriculum in any way possible!  Please send her team of fifth grade students to the WeatherGame at Miller Park.  Mrs. Sperle is not only an amazing teammate, she is also one of my son's teachers.  She goes above and beyond and deserves to be rewarded for inspiring a new team of learners.
  11. Marcia Chambers 4/5/2010

    Play ball!

Words not to my ears, but to the enthusiastic room down the hall.  What class is more deserving than the Brewers decorated room of 'Coach Sperle' and her team of fifth graders. The energy and buzz of learning that takes place when they are in full mode is amazing.  This trip would be an opportunity of a lifetime for them because I taught those students all about weather last year!  My last Brewers tickets were for the 'nosebleed' seats where I could have fun studying the speed of light versus sound watching a player swing and hit and then hearing it a second later!  Yes, this class has been prepped last year and now this year.  I am root-root-rooting for my graduates to use all of their senses which is required to fully assimilate this adventure into their learning.  Let's make it a Cracker Jack year for Lancaster's Coach Sperle's fifth grade class!
  12. Debra Taylor 4/4/2010

I would like to give some grand educational reason why I'd like my students to be able to attend the Brewers baseball game. The truth is, I have an extraordinary group of second graders this year.  They have grown tremendously, worked hard, accomplished great gains in their assessments and have had no discipline difficulties. It would give me great pleasure to be able to reward this wonderful group of students with a day at the ball park.
Thank you for the opportunity to make this a real possibility!

My 4th/5th grade class would be ecstatic if they were chosen to be the special recipients of this opportunity! My love for the Milwaukee Brewers is apparent the second you walk into my classroom, but unfortunately only 3 of my 28 students have ever stepped foot into Miller Park. The ability to connect science and baseball would be a great addition to our curriculum!

At Medford Alternative High School the students rarely get a chance to go on a field trip. I believe that learning about weather in a fun way will store the information in their brains forever. My goal with these kids is to make lasting memories, I want them to remember that school was not only a place to learn, but that it was also fun.
None of our students have ever been to a Brewers game, it is time to change that fact. GO BREWERS!

I teach 2nd grade in New Berlin, WI.  Part of our curriculum is "community". This would be an awesome experience that crosses the curriculum in the areas of social studies, science, and reading.  Even though they are only in 2nd grade (and left out of a lot because they are perceived as too young) they love following the Brewer's and Packer's. Plus the opportunity to include how to be a good sport! Today's economics have also prevented many of my children  from attending a Brewer's or any other sports event.  This would be such an exceptional, memorable event from our own community.

Many of my 10-12 grade students at Marinette High School have not been outside of Marinette, Wisconsin.  Going to Weather Day at Miller Park would be an awesome opportunity for my whole Earth science class.  My class is a diverse group of learners that truly appreciate hands-on experiences.  I would love to come to school one day and tell them about this amazing adventure that they get to participate in.

What a perfect day to post this message! We just had Brewers Day at school. GO BREWERS! Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about weather and what meteorologists do. This trip allows for them to learn and have fun. It would be something they would never forget!

The 8th graders of Washington Middle School in Oconto Falls, WI would love the chance to attend Weather Day at Miller Park on April 28! Throughout the 8th grade school year, our students are taught a wide array of lessons. Many of them pertain to the different opportunities available on Weather Day. During Science, they learn about jet streams, weather patterns, and temperatures. They also learn about the various clouds and how they are formed. While in Geography, the students study climates and the changing weather in different areas of the world. Together, the Reading and English classes do a unit on journalism where the students create newspapers and practice reporting facts from a variety of sources and topics. Seeing a "weather report" from the people at TMJ4 would show yet another application journalism has to the real world. Finally, in Math, the students spend some time studying geometry where they learn formulas to use when determining area, volume, etc. of squares, triangles, and more. This geometry could continually be applied throughout the baseball game at Miller Park. Because of all of the connections this opportunity has to the curriculum taught in 8th grade at Washington Middle School, we know the students would be excited to participate. When trying to create a culminating activity for the end of the school year, this trip would be ideal!

Oh boy, would my middle school students love to see the Milwaukee Brewers.  There are very few oppurtunities like this for my students.  We live in a very small rural community up north on the Menominee Indian Reservation. I work with special education students that appreciate so much.  Weather is around us at all times and having the oppurtunity to learn and have fun at the same time would be priceless!

Seventh graders from Winneconne Middle School would love to see the connection of learning to life.  Our students would benefit greatly from an opportunity to get out of the classroom and participate in the Milwaukee Brewers Weather Day.  As a teacher, I am excited to see what the Milwaukee Brewers have done to tie in learning and sports.  For my master’s project, I helped create a curriculum guide the Green Bay Packers are currently using in their Hall of Fame.  Connecting school curriculum to sports seems to provide relevance to the course material.  Our school would really enjoy a wonderful Brew Crew experience, which in itself would be a lifelong memory for many of our kids.  Thank You for the opportunity and GO BREW CREW.

What a great event!  I was very excited for my students when I read about this opportunity.  My first graders have been working hard studying weather the past few weeks and have gained a great deal of knowledge.  The students and their families would truly appreciate the chance to share this day with the Brewers.  This would be such a wonderful reward for the class to celebrate all of their learning.

Dear Milwaukee Brewers Management and Today’s TMJ4,

We are students in grades 9-11 in a special class called Adult Living at Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, WI.   We would like to enter your Weather Day contest. We heard that you’re giving away free Brewers tickets to a deserving class. We believe we are that class!

Here is a list of reasons why we should win these tickets! We’re hard workers, we’ve learned how to knit to make squares which then will be sewn into blankets that will be donated to homeless shelters through the Warm Up America project!

We always try our best when we’re doing our work. We are always on time for class. Our teacher, Mrs. Wasileski, and our Educational Assistant,  Mrs. Gereau,  think we're the best!  We’re all helpful and we all respect other people and classmates. We all like watching the Brewers play and together we all participate in class.

It would  be an honor to be the Brewers’ guests and we would be honored to get their autograph if we could and also the chance to learn more about our weather from Today’s TMJ4.

    Sincerely,

We are 2nd grade weather watchers from North Crawford located in Soldiers Grove, WI.  We are currently reporting the weather on a local radio station each day.  Identifying cloud types, finding the barometric pressure and using an anemometer are all things we can do.  We may be young but we are enthusiastic, budding meteorologists, space explorers, teachers, doctors, and more.  We would LOVE this opportunity to see a Brewer game and learn more about weather (no floods though, we know that all to well already) and the area outside of us.  LEARNING IS FUN AND KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!! Hello, I am a middle school teacher at the Milwaukee Education Center. My students have been studying the weather and developing their own severe weather broadcasts using power point. My students are always asking about the weather and show an interest in how the weather effects and shapes our everyday lives.  The students' educational knowledge in science would be greatly enhanced if they had the opportunity to participate in the Brewer's Weather Day! My students would love the opportunity to take part in learning more about the weather and enjoy an exciting Brewers Game--Go Brewers!

What a wonderful opportunity! My 7th grade students would really respond to this activity.  They find everything to be astonishing since they rarely leave their neighborhoods outside of school.  The majority of our students come from underprivileged areas of Milwaukee, and as a consequence many have never been to the stadium.  We recently took a field trip to a local park to look for fossils, and the kids thought it was amazing.  Not only would the students really enjoy this, but they’ve shown me that they’re ready for a reward by making major improvements in their behavior.  At the beginning of the year it was complete chaos in science class.  Now the students are capable of conducting experiments, discussing hypotheses, and cleaning up completely when finished.  I really hope they get chosen for this opportunity because my students rarely have a chance to explore the finer parts of Milwaukee.

What a great idea!  Thanks for the opportunity to tell you about our students.  I work closely with 25 students with Special Needs at the Marshfield High School, including those with cognitive disabilities, Fragile X Syndrome and Autism.  The 3 teachers and 6 para-professionals who work with these young people everyday are phenomenal!  We are fortunate to be able to go on many community outings but never as far as Milwaukee and would certainly welcome the opportunity.  We are teaching 2 Science classes this year and the Weather Day would greatly augment our current curriculum.  One young lady, Mariah, can tell you every statistic about the Brewers.  Sharing a trip to a ball game with her friends would be a very memorable event for all.
  30. Tara Petreikis 3/26/2010

My students would love this opportunity like everyone else.  My students live in the north Northwoods, very close to the Michigan border and seldom get the opportunity to experience anything cultural.  We are in a small 4K-12 district and because of that we do not get that many opportunities.
I am currently the 10th grade advisor and teach 6th, 7th & 8th grade in Math and Science.  My 7th graders will be heading into our Weather in April.  Our Environmental Science Fair is on April 21, so this trip would fit perfectly with the happenings in our building.
We like to promote teamwork and sportsmanship and this would provide extra benefits to the students.  My students are crazy for the Brewers and will be having a Brewer's day at school.

Pay it Forward! What a great idea! I am VERY proud of my 7th graders and how they have planned / implemented their own community service projects! They helped our community in so many ways. Here are some examples of the way each student spent 5 hours while completing their projects: shoveling snow for 5 hours on a freezing cold night, sewing costumes for a local theater, helping remodel a local dance studio so there is more room for students to learn dance, collecting / serving food for / to families in need, painting display signs, helping at the Humane Society - just to name a few. I would love to be able to reward my students with a gift from you of a free day of fun and learning. Thank you for considering us to be involved in your exciting Weather Day!

What an incredible opportunity this would be for my 8th grade students!  Fieldtrips are a luxury that is swiftly being cut as the budget tightens, and as a result, my students are missing out.  In my class, there are a high number of students from socio-economically disadvantaged families which also limits their exposure to opportunities such as this.  The rural setting of our school is also a drawback when it comes to visiting everything that is offered in our state.  My eighth graders are enthused, inquisitive, and motivated to learn – and I know these lessons on meteorology would captivate them.  While we are currently studying this unit, my students would certainly benefit from instruction from a meteorologist.  My students attending a Brewer game in person – now THAT would be amazing!

Having the opportunity to take my middle school students to a Brewer game would be awesome! Some of my students have gone on only 1 field trip this entire school year and others have gone on zero fieldtrips due to lack of funding. The kids are so eager to get out into the community and experience new things and this would be a wonderful chance for them to do that. Not only would it be the first baseball game at Miller Park for most of them, it would also be an academic and social learning experience they would never forget.

I would love the opportunity to share a day at Miller Park with my students.  This opportunity would not only be a great learning experience, but also a fantastic cultural experience.   I work with English Language Learners, and none of them have ever experienced a Brewer game!  Every day in class we discuss the weather and the effects it has on our daily lives.  My students and I would love to have this opportunity.
    Thank you,

I would love the opportunity to take my students to a day at Miller Park.  Not only am I a huge baseball fan, but I am a weather freak!  I am currently teaching about weather to my 5 classes of 8th graders. Another unit that I just got done teaching is motions and forces, so if my students could also apply what they already know to the ball game, it would be doubly exciting! It would be a such a thrilling way to top off our units.  I love that our students would be able to go for free since a trip to Milwaukee would be a costly one that many of my students would not be able to afford. Thanks so much for the chance to have a fun science/baseball day!  Go Brewers!

I would love to bring my kindergartners and the eighth grade students to Weather Day.  Since my students are the youngest students in our small rural district and the eighth graders are the oldest, it would be a great opportunity to share a day together learning about weather and, of course, watching a Brewer's game. In our district, we promote Helen Keller's quote: Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.  I think by having these two age levels work together on this day would be demonstrating the importance of this great quote.
My kindergartners have also completed a unit on weather and track weather on a daily basis.  And, we love the Brewers!  This would be a fun day had by all!
    Thank you for your consideration.

I teach 8 classes of 6th, 7th and 8th graders, but I have my Human Relations Club made out of students from all these classes. We live in Janesville; my students had have their share of bad news, sadness and family struggles. What other way will I have to share some happiness and friendship besides taking these kids to... a day and game like this? Most of them had never even go out of Janesville or ever seen a game.

I would be very excited to take my Title 1 students to see a Brewer game. These are students that don't usually get experiences like this and could use some positive outings in their lives. Especially taking a trip to a large city and experiencing that kind of environment and atmosphere. All of the grades study or have studied weather, and since I loved teaching weather as a fifth grade teacher this would be a great opportunity for me to use this experience to teach these Title 1 students more about it.

I would love to be able to have all or even some of my students in the GoLF team classes at PJ Jacobs Junior High attend a Brewers game and discuss it as a weather day! Our thematic approach to cross curricular team teaching makes every activity a learning/writing/discussion experience. Going on field trips to experience new and different activities has become more and more limited in times of tight budgets. We would cherish the challenge of creating some team writing and weather activities to add flavor to our already polished team approach to teaching 7th graders at PJ Jacobs Junior High in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. We team students in the subjects of science, social studies and English.

Umh… In thinking about a WEATHER DAY, my homebase of 43 students fits the description.  They are the BRIGHT and GLOWING students who can make a CLOUDY and DULL day appear SUNNY and WINDY at the same time.  You see, these are the STORMY students who THUNDERED through many challenges.  They marched through COLD SNOW to voice their opinions on why saving the Arts program in all schools is a RAINFALL to many; they collected cans to feed the homeless, our SNOWFLAKES; they are constantly completing extra, SHOWERY tasks to make our school a better and safe environment; and more importantly, they learned that doing for others is always a WARM thing to do.  They are 8th grade students who truly have a CLEAR vision of learning, leadership and citizenship.  I appreciate every STORM they have tackled and want them to enjoy a day of learning about METEOROLOGY while having fun in the SUN.

    Respectfully…another Shiny role model.

The "Weather Day" opportunity at Miller Park will present my 8th grade students with exposure to career possibilities in meteorology as well as other career possibilities in sports besides the athletic role of sports.

My 8th grade students will observe how technology has shaped our lives as they experience "Weather Day's" meteorology and the technology of Miller Park.  This field trip is enrichment of MPS Science Learning Targets for 6th grade (weather) and 7th grade (technology, invention, and the effects on modern society).

This opportunity will prepare my 8th grade students to enter 9th grade in high school with a serious attitude to learn and prepare for their future careers.  Weather Day will also remind my students and me that learning can be FUN!!!

Attending Weather Day at Miller Park would be a wonderful opportunity for the students in my Special Education Class.  Not only have we been studying the Earth's atmosphere, climates, and weather but we have also been working on finding statistical information such as the Mean score that a player receives.  This would be a great opportunity to tie in both concepts.  My students thrive when they are given hands-on activities.  This day would certainly help my students to further conceptualize these subject areas.  They could also use this opportunity as a behavior incentive to continue to do the hard work and keep up on their studies.  Furthermore, having free tickets would also help my students as many do not have the funds to do other fieldtrips offered through the school.

Thank you and Go Brew Crew!

There are many, many reasons my children would love participating in Weather Day at Miller Park!  First, my Kindergarten students have been studying weather all year long. We graph and chart the temperature and weather changes daily.  Participating in Weather Day would be the highlight of our studies. Secondly, we are beginning a science inquiry unit on force and motion.  The children will explore Newton's three laws of motion through many hands-on/minds-on learning activities.  Through this field trip, the children would be able to concretely see Newton's three laws in action!  To top it all off, we all love the Brewers and would hold the memories of this trip in our hearts forever.

My fourth grade class has made tremendous strides this year in thinking scientifically and using the scientific process to pose questions and investigate, observe and draw conclusions. We have learned how we use science every moment of every day as we learn about the world around us. Having the opportunity to "treat" my students to a Brewers game and a science lesson on weather would be a wonderful and truly unforgettable way for us to culminate our learning in science this year.
  56. Becky Andrysczyk 3/13/2010

My 6th graders would DIE if they met the Brewers' players! One of my student's dad works at TGIF and gets to hear about the Brewers alot, but hasn't yet gotten to see all the stadium and team has to offer. We are also starting the process of carrying out a Science Fair, in which many students are doing an in depth experiment for the first time. Discovery World and that included Science Fair would be INVALUABLE for their learning and growth. Above all, this experience would open their views beyond their small town and let them learn beyond the classroom! PLEASE, PICK US! :) !!!!!!

My Writing for Publications class from Platteville High School should visit Miller Park on April 28th because they are a talented group with great writing aspirations. This would be a genuine opportunity for them to put study into practice and write an article about attending an MLB game for our school and community newspapers. Also, maybe they would be able to observe professional sports reporters and photographers at work.
  58. Jon Rossmiller 3/13/2010

My 7th grade scientists recently completed a unit on weather. Each student served as "Meteorologist for  A Day" and made their own weather forecast for their class for that particular day. They used a variety of media in their presentations including one boy who simulated his from a traffic helicopter with little toy cars down below... reporting on the severe winter storm and traffic accident it had caused!

My 7th grade Reading Intervention students would love to attend Weather Day at Miller Park on April 28th. These students have a double dose of Reading every day and are truly motivated to become proficient readers. They are a joy to work with and give 100% of their effort every day to improve their reading ability. My students read nonfiction daily and especially love reading anything sports related. With Miller Park being within walking distance, this would be a very exciting and memorable event for my students, many of whom have never been to a ball game. It would be wonderful for me to be able to reward these great kids for all their hard work with an educational trip to their local ball park!

A day at Miller Park would be such an amazing experiencing for my class and me for so many reasons!  One, as many have said, one of our science units this year is Air and Weather so that ties along very nicely.  The second being, some of my students have never had the opportunity to go to a Brewers' game and maybe never will.  Third, we have been studying communities and have actually built a town.  It would be great for students to see other communities, such as Milwaukee and the wonderful buildings there.  My students love writer's workshop and I know that this would be their favorite story of the year to write about. Lastly, bring me home.  I was born and raised in Milwaukee and moved to Madison in 2000!  We would welcome and cherish the opportunity if given the trip.

I think this would be a wonderful motivator for my students. I teach special education students in a middle school and discussing sports is a way for me to build relationships with my students. They enjoy every opportunity where they are able to learn while having fun. Learning about weather, local sports history, and having them learn outside of the school building would definitely push them to work hard! They struggle with learning and having them achieve success with a reward puts a smile on all of our faces!

It would be great to show my Digital Media Technology students the technology used to broadcast a Milwaukee Brewers game from the home field Park.  Also, they can gather info on how weather is broadcast and forecasted, the tools and tech used to bring it to the television.  It would be super exciting.
  64. Mary Farron 3/12/2010

What a great trip this would be for my fifth graders.  Not only would they learn about weather, they would also have the opportunity to visit a major league baseball stadium.  This would be a trip they would never forget! What a great way to engage students in learning about the world around them!

I'm one of the advisors for Fort TV at the Fort Atkinson High School and I would like to take our members to the Weather Day at Miller Park.  I have a student, Chris Scherer, that has been with me all 4 years and I would like to thank him and all of the Fort TV members for all of their endless time and effort that they put in to having the best TV productions in the state of WI.

    Thank you to everyone ~

The Weather Day Show would be a fantastic culminating activity for our 6th grade Weather Unit. In this unit, the students study weather map symbols, different types of weather, clouds, fronts, and the atmosphere. It would be wonderful to be able to participate in this presentation as a way to connect what they have been learning in class to everyday life. The Science Fair demonstrations will be a huge motivation to our 6th graders as our students will be participating in their own Science Fair in May. To top off a day of great education with a Brewer game, just can't be beat!

My class would absolutely LOVE to go the Weather Day at Miller Park!  We love Wisconsin sports, especially the Brewers and the Packers.  Many of my students have taken my summer school class ("Packermania") and have learned good sportsmanship, and I promote being good sports all year long, whether it is at school events, or professional sports events.  I am very proud that my students love sports, and always exhibit good sportsmanship!
