Students in Alyson Davis' 5th-grade Salem classroom planned, organized, and implemented a penny war to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake. They titled the challenge "Give a penny, SAVE a life!", with all of the money they collected being donated to the Red Cross for its efforts in Haiti.
"I had no idea how this was going to work out, but they were really excited about it so I went with it," Davis said. "Amazingly, they were able to collect over $2,500.00 in one week! I am just so excited by the enthusiasm and dedication my students had in this process, that I feel I need to share it with anyone and everyone. Kiddos like this put a little sunshine back into life!"
