Governor Jim Doyle stresses the importance of protecting
public education in the state budget during a press conference at Chippewa
Falls High School on June 14.
In February the governor introduced a state budget bill
that calls for an additional $850 million investment so that the state
lives up to its promise to fully fund two-thirds of the cost of public
education. The Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee finished
its work on the budget bill this month, and it calls for more than $400
million in cuts to education. If the JFC bill became law, the Chippewa
Falls School District would face cuts of more than $1.8 million over
the next two years.
