Cristina Diaz-Arntzen, of Waukesha, sells items from Guatemala
to raise money for books for the kids at a sister school in Guatemala.
With help of the NEA Representative Assembly delegates, especially Wisconsin
delegates, she was able to meet and surpass her goal by raising $2,345.00.
In 2002, Diaz-Arntzen won NEA's George I. Sanchez Memorial Human and
Civil Rights Award for her work in advancing educational and civil rights
for Hispanics. Since 1988, she has traveled to Chichicastenago, Guatemala,
several times and has helped raise $20,000 to provide books, educational
materials, and a library.
