cats

The Cat in the Hat was on the prowl in 28 Southwest Wisconsin area schools, reading to 3,361 kindergarten through 2nd-grade students and handing out bookmarks and stickers to another 3,281 3rd- through 5th-grade students. As part of the annual "Read Across America" – a national reading promotion sponsored by the National Education Association and WEAC – a special 2004 "Seusscelebration" was held March 1-12, including honoring Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday on March 2. In conjunction with NEA, the Southwest Wisconsin Education Association Public Relations Committee sponsored members of the SWEA-Retired Association who slipped on "Cat" suits, hats, tails, and whiskers as they shared books and information about the famous author. The "cats" included (left to right) Marie Fatzinger, Geri U'ren and Carol Bertram. Another "cat" not pictured was Dianne Bergenski.
