Retirees for Walker!

By Dustin Beilke

No, you did not mis-read the headline.

Retired people dontated $600,000 to Scott Walker's campaign this fall, almost double the amount they gave to the GOP gubernatorial candidate four years ago and three times what they gave to Democratic candidate Tom Barrett.

Those of us who think Walker is a bad bargain for retirees have an organizing challenge: seek out other retirees, talk to them, tell them why you think candidates who believe in things like public schools, public services, public investments and tax fairness are better for retired people.

I found it hard to believe that $600,000.00 was donated to Gov. Walkers campaign by retirees.  Are the retirees needing new glasses?  Don't they pay attention to Tea Party supported candidates?  We in Tennessee lost a marvelous senator, Senator Childs, who was endorsed by NEA and had a great reputation for education.  Again voters here were going for anyone not presently in government and replacing them pell mell regardless of their qualifications.  A doctor was chosen to replace Childs.  He didn't know his ... but got elected just the same.  Where is this country going when such people are elected?
