A new blog for and about WEAC-Retired members

By Dustin Beilke

The WEAC-Retired blog is designed to be a place where everyone—retired or not—can  teach and learn. WEAC-Retired members can use the space to write about who they are and what they are thinking, and those who are not retired or are not yet WEAC-Retired members can find out more about WEAC-Retired and its more-than 10,000 retired WEAC members.

That means we need you to log in and comment on the blog posts. Or suggest a topic for us to blog about. Or become a member blogger yourself  in this space—just let us know if you are interested.

You can also learn more about WEAC-Retired by checking out the information on the weac.org WEAC-Retired Landing Page. WEAC-Retired’s 25 chapters are listed here. Our structure, mission, and some of the benefits of joining are explained here. You can find out how to join here. And you can read issues of the WEAC-Retired quarterly newsletter here.

Let us know what you want this to be and help us make it that way.

    Dear Members,

I have just gotten off the phone with WEATRUST and TSA accounts.  The very first thing which I heard was the instruction to press 1 if I wanted the directory in English.

I feel that this is insulting and demeaning as an American citizen contacting an organization that is working for me.

I would like to know what others think of this type of practice.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Rowden

I am contacting you from Reach Out  and Read Milwaukee which is affiliated with Children's Hospital and the  Medical College of Wisconsin. We have opportunities for volunteers interested in doing literacy activities and reading to children in pediatric clinic waiting rooms. The clinics we serve are located  in some of the most underserved areas of Milwaukee. The focus of Reach Out and  Read is to pair early literacy with regular pediatric visits for children  from 6 months to 5 years of age. At every well child visit, pediatricians give  children a beautiful new, culturally and age appropriate book to take home. We  also supply gently used books for siblings and children at sick visits to take  home with them.
