WEAC Convention: it’s not just for teachers!

From the WEAC Education Support Professional (ESP) Committee

Halloween is just around the bend, and that means it is time for the WEAC Convention, October 28-29, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The days of old, are past, and it is not a “Teachers’ Convention” anymore. Education Support Professionals (ESP) are all welcome and encouraged to attend. And there is a little bit of everything for everyone!

Here what we have in store for you, Mr./Ms. Paraprofessional, Secretary, Custodian, Bus driver, Cook, etc.:

·         Professional & Personal Development Sessions.

♦   Are you looking for more training and education in understanding how to work with your students’ health needs – and your own?  We have got the session for you. With more and more students needing medical attention at school, regulations have soared and you need of additional training and education on how you can best serve the students you work with.

•  Come to the Health Information & Tools for ESP scheduled for Friday, October 29, 8:30am-2:30pm. This session will qualify for WEA Professional Development ESP Certificate.

•  Register now so this session is sure to be available to you and your coworkers!

♦   There are more sessions that could appeal to both your professional and personal development interest than you could imagine (no need to register for these sessions)!  Here are few other sessions of interest to ESP members on Thursday too,:

•  Response to Intervention

•  Creating Peaceful Spaces in the Preschool & Elementary Classrooms

•  Working with Challenging Students

•  Learning Strategies and Study Strategies for Students with Disabilities

•  Retirement Planning: It’s More Than Money

•  Managing Conflict with Power & Presence

•  Finances 101

•  And so much more!

·         New member stipend. If you do attend, and you are in your first-third years of being employed by the district and being a member of WEAC, you can  qualify for a $50 stipend for attending the WEAC Convention.  You must attend both days, click here for more information.

·         Visit the Education Support Professionals Booth in the Exhibit Hall

♦   Celebrate our theme “ESP and Teachers= Partners in Students Success”.

♦   Give us feedback on what you would like to see WEAC and the WEAC ESP Committee focus their energies on.

♦   Find out what is new and relevant to ESP members across the state.

We want to see you at WEAC Convention. Help be part of the ESP presence at the WEAC Convention and show that we are all part one education community and one union.
