Last week, we posted that question on the WEAC Facebook page, and we have started to get some very interesting conversation going. This is such a great use of the WEAC Facebook page, and of this blog. This is a chance to share what your school or classroom is doing to respond to the Haiti tragedy. Participating in this conversation not only gives your students some good publicity and feedback for their hard work, but it also gives other teachers great ideas for what they might do in their school. Here are some of our Facebook comments so far:
- Holly Albrecht: Hartland North. Our student council - all 5th graders - had a bake sale this week to support a small school in Haiti. We raised over $2400.00. Now the whole district is doing something to add to our fund. We have some school grandparents that will take the money directly to Haiti.
- Carol Levendusky: Stangel Elementary and the K-Kids are collecting donations this week. We have a parent who is going to Haiti. She works for the Salvation Army here in Manitowoc.
- Aly Schmidt Davis: My fifth grade class has coordinated and will be running a penny war next week at our k-8 school in Kenosha County. My students have named the war "Give a penny, Save a LIFE". They are so very excited about this chance to help others. They have put a great deal of time and heart into this and I can't wait to see their excitement when we give the money to the Red Cross.
- Lani Mannion: My elementary art students and I are trying to come up with an art project that we can make and auction off to support Haiti. We are thinking of making colaborative paintings in each class.
