WEAC has joined the World of Facebook, and we hope you will become a “fan” and an active participant.
Many of you already have Facebook accounts and may have been enjoying the benefits of this increasingly popular social networking site for months or even years. All you have to do is go to the WEAC page (see below) and click “Become a fan.”
If don’t have a Facebook account (called a profile), it’s easy to create one. Just go to www.Facebook.com. In the top right of the screen on the blue task bar, click on "Register" and follow directions.
Why have a Facebook account? Well, why not? It’s easy, it’s free, it’s fun, and it keeps you connected with people, organizations, and issues in ways you never thought possible.
Soon after I created my own Facebook profile several months ago, I started hearing from people I had not seen or heard from in years. They discovered me through Facebook and asked me to make them my Facebook friends. I accepted, and now I am able to easily keep up to date with what is happening in their lives.
Many of my Facebook “friends” are colleagues from NEA state affiliates throughout the country. I not only get glimpses into their personal lives, but we share ideas and “deep thoughts” about our ever-changing and challenging profession. I also am a fan of the pages of several professional organizations that help me keep up with the latest trends in publishing, electronic communications and social networking. For you, it might be networking about math, science, testing trends or classroom technology.
The WEAC Facebook page can be a valuable addition to your online network. We post news, videos, podcasts, and later, will have contests and other fun activities. But the main reason to become a fan of the WEAC page is to network with your WEAC colleagues and associates. You can engage in conversations on specific topics or anything that’s on your mind.
I encourage you to go right to the “discussion” tab, and be one of the first users to comment on our first discussion topic: What features would you like to see on the WEAC Facebook page? Or just use the Wall posting to “Write something” to get a conversation started.
You will find a link on the left side of the page to our Social Networking Guidelines. Please look them over before getting started.
You’ll enjoy becoming a regular contributor to discussions that begin to happen on the page, both on the Wall and in the Discussion area. This page is open to anyone, including people who might not be loyal fans of WEAC. So please chime in and help set anyone straight if they post misguided messages. As a member of the WEAC family, help us use this page to both build community and get out our messages.
The new WEAC Facebook page can be accessed through either of these URLs:

Try it. Enjoy it. Participate. Your participation will increase the value of this great new resource both for yourself and for your colleagues.
