Action Alert
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." Will Rogers
Tired of the status quo? Take a step to get involved with fellow public education employees to bring about change that ensures great schools and a great future for ourselves and the children we serve.
Like it or not, public school funding, class sizes, work loads, testing - accountability standards, licensing requirements, and our rights to bargain over critical issues such as pension benefits, health insurance and salaries are all determined by state law. Laws are made by politicians. Together, WEAC education employees total 93,000 members strong and can tip the balance in any election particularly in an era where elections are often decided by just a few votes.
During the upcoming fall election we anticipate a fight that could have unprecedented consequences for public education. Radical law makers on the right will try to unseat Governor Doyle and elect a governor that supported TABOR (so-called Tax Payer’s Bill of Rights) amendment to the State Constitution. This would have had disastrous short and long term consequences for public education leading to diminished educational opportunities for Wisconsin children and will prevent your bargainers from negotiating fair contracts for education employees for many years to come. It will compound our present bargaining situation by several fold.
Here is how you can take action for change. Lakewood Uniserv is organizing member involvement designed to help support the Governor's re-election. We would like our members to make a commitment to help in this effort. If you want to become a part of making history and change, please sign up and join us in our efforts to strengthen public education. We are stronger together!!!
