THINK YOUR VOTE DOESN’T COUNT?
Jim Baumgart knows your vote counts. Remember his contest with Joe Leibham in fall of 2002? In that very important Senate race, 55,704 votes were cast and counted. Jim lost by only 42—27,858 to 27,812. After April 6, the citizens of South Milwaukee also know the meaning of a single vote. In a hotly contested mayoral, incumbent David Kieck collected 2,783 votes, while his challenger, Jim Logic, earned 2,783. A TIE! Drawing a name out of a hat broke the tie – Mr. Logic was the winner – for a couple of days. After a recount, the outcome changed. Mr. Kieck was declared a winner by one vote. Now, Mr. Logic is challenging the outcome. In New Holstein, three candidates were competing for two positions on the New Holstein School Board. Jerome Bord (incumbent) collected 700 votes, Robert Bosma (incumbent) collected 655 votes, and challenger Cheryl Heller 639. Just 16 votes separated a winner from a loser. A single vote can make a difference – an entire UniServ can determine an
outcome! Exercise your right!
Vote! ORGANIZING FOR POWER On Saturday, May 15, KMUC will join five other UniServs in sponsoring Organizing for Power, a very important organizing conference designed to prepare local Associations for the fall elections. Each local is encouraged to bring a team of at least three to five members consisting of an elected leader, bargainer, legislative chair, and other interested members. Conference participants will learn about what’s at stake on November 2 and how they can organize their membership to successfully elect pro-education candidates into political office. Please plan on attending. Radisson Hotel and Conference
