EAW Scholarships
Future Teachers Receive Support
The Education Association of Waukesha is proud to announce the three recipients of our annual $750 scholarships. Each year the EAW supports the efforts of students who are preparing for careers in education-related fields. The EAW presented this year’s scholarships to Amy Wareham, a Brookfield Central High School senior, planning to major in Elementary Education at Carroll University and to Jessica Massman, a Waukesha North student, who plans to major in Physical Therapy at UW LaCrosse this fall. Jessica’s proud parents are Special Educators, Bruce (North High) and Mary Jo (Horning) Massman. Amy’s Dad, David, teaches 5th grade at Rose Glen Elementary School. This year our third recipient is Katie Laveau, a Waukesha South senior, who plans to major in Elementary Education and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater this fall. Katie is the second recipient of a new scholarship offered to current seniors at North, South, and West who are planning to pursue an education-related field. Katie’s mother is Business Educator, Ginger Laveau, at West High School. Amy Wareham is a talented young lady who has excelled in the classroom, on the golf team, and in the Brookfield Central music program. She has been part of an amazing mentorship experience this year volunteering in a 3rd grade classroom at Brookfield Elementary. She has also tutored 4th and 5th graders in the band program two times a week and has taught private flute lessons. Her career goal is to attend Carroll University to become an elementary education teacher. “Being the daughter of two elementary school teachers has given her ease and a real talent for working with children.” In fact, both of her parents and all four of her grandparents work in public schools in Wisconsin! Her application convinced us that not only is teaching in her blood, but also in her heart, for she has demonstrated to us her potential to be an exciting and energetic teacher. Our second scholarship went to an incredibly talented and well-rounded teen leader, Jessica Massman, who has excelled in the classroom, on the swimming team, and in the Waukesha North choirs. She has been part of the Interact Club’s fundraising events for children with special needs and has served as a peer mentor in the Ignition program. She was inspired by her experience at Team Up for Fun camp where she worked with disabled youth. Having two parents who are special educators has been an influence as well. Her career goal is to attend UW LaCrosse for Physical Therapy. The School District of Waukesha scholarship this year was presented to South Senior, Katie Laveau. Katie has a career goal to attend UW-Whitewater to study Spanish and become an elementary education teacher. She is a talented young lady who has excelled in the classroom, on the Varsity tennis and Varsity softball teams, and in the Waukesha South music program. She has been a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Her mom, a business education teacher at West, her uncle, and her grandpa, along with many other wonderful, dedicated teachers, have inspired her. Her application and references convinced us that she “has an unstoppable work ethic,” and she is “destined for great things in the future.” The EAW Scholarship Review Committee feels each of these young women displays great potential for success. The EAW is proud to support them as they work toward their education-related careers!
