State delegates gather for NEA RA
Wisconsin delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly gathered in Washington D.C. Thursday (July 3, 2008) to hear the final opening address from NEA President Reg Weaver. In an era of No Child Left Behind, underfunded public schools, and school voucher schemes, Weaver has aggressively campaigned for the basic right of every child to receive a quality public education. Weaver addressed nearly 10,000 educators, and looked ahead to challenges, and possibilities, for public schools.

The WEAC Web site won the First Place Award for Best Web Site among the largest of NEA's state affiliates at the annual conference of the State Education Editors (SEE). In addition, WEAC's weekly electronic newsletter, OnWEAC Direct, won First Place for Best E-Newsletter. WEAC also won an Award of Merit for editorial writing.
Members speak out on SAGE benefits
Members continue to speak out about WEAC Legislative Agenda issues. In new online videos posted this week, members talk about how the SAGE class size reduction program benefits children. "It's a rare case where academic research and common sense come together," says Sun Prairie teacher Glenn Schmidt. "The community support is overwhelming for SAGE," adds Rhinelander teacher Nancy Kuczmarski. Also read about other WEAC Legislative Agenda issues.
New Wisconsin Way forums under way
You are invited to participate in the second round of statewide Wisconsin Way forums, which are now under way. Updates to the forum schedule have been posted. The next forum is July 10 in Oshkosh. At these forums, citizens are asked to respond to potential policy solutions that were formulated based on input provided at earlier forums. WEAC is part of the Wisconsin Way coalition, whose goal is to find ways to build a stronger Wisconsin economy that can better support public services.
