Rosen (re)appointed to WTCS State Board

Governor Jim Doyle reappointed Dr. Michael Rosen to the WTCS State Board on Friday, September 1. Rosen is an economics instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College and president of AFT, Local 212 – the union that represents MATC faculty and staff.

Rosen was originally appointed to the WTCS State Board in late 2005. However, Republicans in the Wisconsin State Senate – which confirms all gubernatorial appointees - killed the appointment in spring of this year. The Senate’s action prompted this response from Governor Doyle:

“I am deeply disappointed by this partisan stunt by Senate Republicans. Michael Rosen is a highly respected professor in the Milwaukee community who has broad support, is a tireless advocate for the state's technical colleges, and has a long history of public service. Senate Republicans could give no good reason for rejecting this appointment.”

WEAC President Stan Johnson applauded Dr. Rosen’s reappointment:

“WEAC applauds Governor Doyle's reappointment of Michael Rosen to the Wisconsin Technical College System Board.

“The rejection of Dr. Rosen's first WTCS State Board appointment by the Republican-controlled State Senate last spring was a slap in the face of working people and union members across Wisconsin.

“Dr. Rosen is a strong advocate of technical education and Wisconsin workers, and he will be an extremely effective voice for Wisconsin's technical colleges.”

Rosen will again go before the Senate for confirmation.
