A handful of classes were recently added to the state-approved list of general education courses. Under the newly restructured associate of applied sciences (AAS) degree, only courses on the state-approved list will count toward fulfillment of the general education degree requirements. Faculty have expressed concern that the limited number of courses on the state-approved list will make it difficult to meet the needs of programs and students. Since late last year, faculty and administrators have been engaged in a multi-stage process to place more general education course options on the state-approved list. The first of those course additions have now been approved. The state-approved general education list stood at 41 courses as of March 17, up from 36 courses last fall. Math with Business Applications was added several months ago. The four more recent additions are: Principles of Animal Biology; College Physics 1; College Physics 2; and The Exceptional Person. A number of additional courses are in various stages of the course approval process. |
