Gateway faculty and ESP settlements

Congratulations to faculty and ESP units at Gateway Technical College, both of which have new three-year contracts. Both units received the same per cell increase: 3% in 2004-05; 3% in 2005-06; and 3.25% in 2006-07.

Effective October 1, 2004, both units also switch from a self-funded health, dental and long-term disability insurance plan to the WEA Trust. The WEA plan pays all expenses at 100% after the employee satisfies a front-end deductible ($250-single; $500-family). Under the new agreement, the employee pays $15 per month (single) or $30 per month (family) towards the premium. In future years, the employee's premium contribution is indexed to future wage increases. For example, in 2005-06 the employees' share of the premium will increase by 3%.

Both units also were able to negotiate fully paid long-term care insurance until age 65 for the employee and eligible spouse.

In addition to the above benefits, the faculty were able to negotiate improvements in union release time language, special assignment improvements for lead instructors and division chairs, and upgraded counselor workday language.

The ESP unit increased its second shift premium and instituted a third shift premium. In addition, the ESP unit improved its tuition reimbursement language and sick leave provisions.
