The NEA will award ESP Technology Grants for the fourth year in a row. The grants give ESP local associations the opportunity to involve members in technological projects that benefit schools and communities. The projects also advance NEA's strategic focus of improving the public's confidence in public education.
The 2000-2001 NEA ESP Technology grant was awarded to 16 locals, including a local from Wisconsin - the West Bend Education Association. This combined local association of paraeducators, secretaries, and teachers has used the grant to create a Web page that provides information for parents. The grant was also used to conduct staff development in the area of technology, so that ESP members would be better equipped to communicate with parents. Some of the funds were also used to set up a computer system for ESP use in a UniServ office.
If your local association would like some assistance in applying for an ESP Technology grant, WEAC's Information Technology Director, Nathan Harper, and ESP Coordinator, Fran McNett, will work with your local and UniServ Director to develop your ideas into a proposal. Contact them at 1-800-362-8034 or harpern@weac.org and mcnettf@weac.org.
