As President of the WCTEA, I want to extend my greetings and let you know that the WCTEA is looking forward to representing all WCTC Part-time Faculty, along with the Full-time Faculty. Together, we will be the united voice of all WCTCs teaching professionals.
The WCTEA has already begun the process of amending our Constitution to bring Part-time Faculty into the WCTEA. The WCTEA guarantees that you as Part-time Faculty will determine your own issues and will have full representation in negotiations and all other matters.
The advantages of having the WCTEA represent Part-time Faculty as well as Full-time Faculty are 1) that the WCTEA already has an established working relationship with the WCTC administration and Board; and 2) that one united WCTEA provides all faculty with strength and solidarity.
Our national organization, the National Education Association, represents Part-time Faculty in community and technical colleges throughout the nation. Other NEA affiliates have negotiated issues such as a procedures for class assignments, compensation for preparation time, preferential hiring for available full-time positions when vacancies occur, job security, pro-rata salaries, and pro-rata health benefits.
Including all of the Part-time Faculty in the collective bargaining process at WCTC will provide the opportunity to achieve and maintain professional working conditions for all WCTC faculty.
I encourage you to support WCTEA representation in the upcoming election.
Respectfully,
Ellen Mei, President
