Getting to Know You!

Over the past two months, WCTC Part-time and Full-time Faculty volunteers have talked with approximately 400 Part-time Faculty. The focus of these contacts has been to provide information about the organizing process and answer questions about the Union. Volunteers are continuing to make calls to Part-time Faculty. If you haven’t received a call yet and have questions, feel free to call us! You can reach Jeannie Lehmann at 251-1756 or the WCTEA Office at 691-5171.

WCTC Part-time Faculty – Over 900 Employees and Growing

WCTC Part-time Faculty are a diverse group, teaching accounting to welding and all subjects in between. While a few teach just one hour a week, some teach up to twenty-five hours a week. Some are very satisfied to teach part-time; others work two or three jobs, and would prefer a full-time teaching job. Close to half of all WCTC classes are taught by Part-time Faculty. Obviously, WCTC Part-time Faculty are an integral, important component of the College.

What Do WCTC Part-time Faculty Care About?

In discussions with volunteers, Part-time Faculty have emphasized the following issues and needs: pay for class preparation, salary equity, more access to computers, e-mail, voice mail, a desk at WCTC, earlier notification of assignments and schedules, greater opportunities for professional development as instructors, and opportunities to interact with our professional colleagues. Other important issues that have been noted are opportunities for adding classes and more say in decisions affecting our classes and students.

What WCTC Part-time Faculty have in common is a desire to make a difference for the students and community, and to have a voice in the success of WCTC, our classes, and the profession of teaching.

The upcoming election to form WCTC Part-Time United Faculty will provide the opportunity to vote on union representation – to have one strong voice on behalf of the issues WCTC Part-time Faculty care about.
