WCTC Part-Time United Faculty

- News Update #1 -

Fall 1997

College hires a Chicago Consulting Firm for $250/hour!!

WCTC recently allocated funds to pay for the services of a consulting firm that specializes in attempts to defeat employee-unionizing efforts.

The WCTC Part-Time United Faculty Organizing Committee plans to monitor materials and activities of the College’s hired consultants. At the same time we are working to answer your questions about union membership so that you’ll be able to make an informed decision.

One-on-One Interviews with Supervisors

The College’s consulting firm has been training and coaching WCTC administrators in techniques for one-on-one interviews with part-time faculty. Associate deans have been instructed to conduct these interviews with all part-time faculty in their area.

The WCTC Part-Time United Faculty Organizing Committee regards each interview as

a real opportunity to hear the College’s position on issues of importance to part-time faculty as identified in our December 1997 phone survey:

  • Preparation time pay for part-time faculty
  • Increase in wages for part-time faculty
  • Access to additional work, including full-time positions as they become available
  • Inclusion in College educational decision-making processes

A value of unionizing will be our ability to bargain for the benefit of all part-time faculty on these and other important issues of wages, hours, and working conditions.

Your Show of Interest Survey Card is Important

The WCTC Part-Time United Faculty Organizing Committee continues to receive cards in support of our organizing effort. Thank you! If you have not yet registered your support for holding an election to determine union representation, please consider sending in the enclosed card.
