The Colleges
consulting firm has been training and coaching WCTC administrators
in techniques for one-on-one interviews with part-time faculty.
Associate deans have been instructed to conduct these interviews
with all part-time faculty in their area.
The WCTC Part-Time United
Faculty Organizing Committee regards each interview as
a real opportunity to hear
the Colleges position on issues of importance to part-time
faculty as identified in our December 1997 phone survey:
- Preparation time pay for
part-time faculty
- Increase in wages for
part-time faculty
- Access to additional
work, including full-time positions as they become available
- Inclusion in College
educational decision-making processes
A value of unionizing will
be our ability to bargain for the benefit of all part-time faculty
on these and other important issues of wages, hours, and working
conditions.
