Prospective Teacher Salary Data

Want more information for helping you to decide where to teach in Wisconsin?
As you conclude your student teaching, you will initiate the process of deciding where you want to teach. WEAC Collective Bargaining and Research has prepared the Prospective Teacher Employment Information Packet to assist you in the search for your first teaching job. The full report is available on the members-only site, when you click here.

This report focuses on salary data from the 2005-06 and 2006-07 school years; there are many other important employment benefits that have been bargained locally between school districts and the teachers association that have a direct bearing on working conditions. Such items may include fringe benefits, length of school day and year, the right to have an active role in curriculum development and reimbursement for a teacher to go back to school and work toward a higher degree. This information can be found by obtaining a copy of the collective bargaining agreement by either contacting the UniServ or through the district. Sessions at our Student WEA Conferences also deal with these very topics.

The full version of the Prospective Teacher Employment Information Packet contains the following salary information:

B.A. MINIMUM: This is the entry level salary for a teacher who has no previous experience and holds a Bachelor's degree.
M.A. MINIMUM: This is the entry level salary for a teacher who has no previous experience and holds a Master's degree.
M.A. MAXIMUM: This is the maximum that a teacher can earn with a Master's degree and no other credits.
YEARS TO M.A. MAXIMUM: This shows how many years it will take a teacher to reach the top step of the M. A. column of the salary schedule. The lower the number of years, the quicker a teacher reaches the top of the schedule which will provide for greater lifetime earnings than a salary schedule with more steps.
Full Time Teacher Positions: This will tell you the size of the district based on the full-time teacher equivalency employed in each district as reported by the district to the Department of Public Instruction.
UNISERV Office Information: UniServ is the regional WEAC field office which works with that school district.
