WEAC has published a guidebook to help members achieve certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
WEAC member Catherine Anderson, who became nationally certified in 1999, wrote the 10-page reference guide. She is a trained National Board facilitator and has helped many WEAC and NEA members through the certification process. She is a science teacher at DeLong Middle School in Eau Claire.

Those areas are:
The guide outlines scoring criteria, helps teachers select which accomplishments to document, and provides practical tips for assembling and formatting the portfolio entry. The guide also helps teachers understand the three types of writing — descriptive, analytical, and reflective — required in all four portfolio entries.
