| West Central Education Association member Kristine Crowe is
receiving a Learning and Leadership Grant from the NEA Foundation
for the Improvement of Education (NFIE). Crowe, who teaches 5th- through 8th-graders at Augusta Middle
School, applied for the grant to learn how to create a community-based
remedial program for students who need extra help with math and
reading skills. She'll use the grant to participate in workshops sponsored by
the Mott Foundation that address program management, curriculum
integration and staff development. NFIE awarded grants in two categories. Innovation Grants support
creative ideas that significantly improve achievement for underserved
students. Learning and Leadership Grants, like the one Crowe received,
provide public school educators with opportunities to engage in
high-quality professional development. NFIE awarded more than $150,000 in grants to 70 educators in
16 states during Winter 2004. Public school teachers, education support professionals and higher
education faculty can apply for an NFIE grant up to $5,000 at
any time. For more information about applying for a grant, visit
the NFIE
Web site. Posted February 25, 2004 |
